Storytime Fun

Participants had fun creating a ghostly craft made from their own footprint, and listening to fall holiday stories at a recent Little Listeners story time event. Sign up for story time today! Call the library at 663-0270.

Grow your family tree

October is designated in many U.S. States as "Family History Month." This month, local resident, Donna Wetzel has created a genealogy display at the Crown Point Library.

Celebrate your family history and begin to create your family tree. Begin by talking to your family, examine family scrapbooks and photo albums and try online resources like ANCESTRY.COM. which can be accessed for free from the Crown Point Library. This database contains more than 4 billion names. It has coverage of the United States and the United Kingdom, including census, vital, military, court, and immigration records, as well as record collections from Canada, Europe, and other areas.

For additional tips, ask the Reference Librarian at the Crown Point or Winfield Branch Library.

Crown Point Library Teen Volunteers

On Tuesday, September 28 our new teen volunteers and their parents were invited to join us for a teen orientation meeting. Teens and their parents were introduced to the library staff, learned about the volunteer program and were given a behind-the-scenes tour of the library.

Our teen volunteers are young patrons who assist library staff with a variety of library-related tasks. Many of our teenagers volunteer at the library to fulfill community service requirements for school and other institutions. This important program allows out teenagers to develop a sense of ownership of the library and its services.

NEW LIBRARY UPDATE

Have you noticed some activity at the site for our new library? They are surveying and doing soil borings in preparation for construction.
Groundbreaking is expected to be late spring, 2011.
We can't wait--how about you?
