Press, Play and Go!
Have you discovered the wonderful world of audio books? Audio books have become very popular and a favorite format is the PLAYAWAYS. Playaways combine the portability of MP3 without the need for special equipment or technical know-how.
Each device is small enough to fit in the plam of your hand and comes pre-loaded with an unabridged audio book. Simple to use, all you need is a set of headphones or earbuds, and you take your book anywhere! The gym, for a walk, you can listen while you clean your house! Don't have any earbuds? - the library has them for sale for $1.
The Crown Point Library has over 100 titles available on Playaways and the Winfield Branch has recently added Playawys to their collection. Here are a few new titles just added to the Crown Point Library collection:
Broken by Karin Slaughter
Family Ties by Danielle Steel
The Liar's Lullaby by Meg Gardiner
Love in the Afternoon by Lisa Kleypas
Private by James Patterson and Maxine Paetro
The Shack by William P. Young
Whiplash by Catherine Coulter

Read to the Dogs!
(Aedin Obringer reads to Gunner)
The Crown Point Library invites school age children to visit the library during summer reading and Read to the Dogs!
Children can come to the library where the Read to the Dogs event will take place. They sign up at the Youth Service Desk and select a book to read to a furry friend. All of the dogs and handlers who participate are affiliated with Power Paws - A local organization that provides animal-assisted therapy to adults and children.
(Alyssa Zena reads to Apollo)
The program is designed to allow kids the chance to read to a non-judgemental listener, one who will accept the story exactly as they read it. Animals are ideal reading companions because they create a relaxed, comfortable, and safe environment. When a child is having "fun" reading, they think of themselves as a good reader, which helps their self esteem and makes them eager to read.
The next Read to the Dogs events are:
Tuesday, July 27 at the Crown Point Library from 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and
Wednesday, July 28 at the Winfield Branch Library from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m.
